There were fresh champions and there were those who retained their champion tags but overall happiness dawned on every young face as curtains came down on a well organized sub-junior and junior national championship at the ISA courts onSaturday.
Among the new champions was Abhisheka Shannon in the girls U-11 section. The Tamil Nadu girl is the daughter of former International athlete Angela Lincy and Football Coach Robin and also a trainee at the ISA. The tall girl took time to settle before setting aside the challenge of top seed Diksha Aurubindo, also of Tamil Nadu.
In the U-19 section there was no change with Kush Kumar (TN) and Harishit Kaur Jwanda (Del) retaining the titles. Kush thus signed off from the junior ranks with his 9th national title overall from U-11 stage. That was he was a class apart was seen from his displays and in the final too it was an easy affair against Vijay Kumar. Jwanda, on the other hand had started here as the second seed but just managed to hold on. In the final she was two games down against Lakshya Ragavendran,t he top seed from TN. But as it happened the local girl after initially hurrying through well fell into a morass of mistakes.
Yet another creditable effort came from Adya Advani , the second seed in the girls u-17 section when she toppled the top seeded Akanksha Salunkhe of Goa in five games. The boys title in this category was grabbed by Velavan Senthilkumar and in style.
The Member Secretary of SDAT, V.K. Jeyakodi was the chief guest and gave away the medals and trophies.
