Up and coming Kush Kumar and talented Mahesh Mangaonkar made a good start in the $15,000 Victorian Open, a PSA event being held in Melbourne.
Fresh from his win in the Tasmania Open, the other day, the Chennai player Kush took the centre stage when he showed the second seed Nasir Iqbal and ranked 49 in the world, the exit in four games in the very first round. The D.G. Vaishnav College student, a trainee at the Indian Squash Academy showed his fighting qualities as also his skills to shock the experienced Pakistan player who had not long ago beaten India’s top player Saurav Ghosal in a tournament. The unseeded Kush won 12-10, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7.
For Mahesh Mangaonkar, seeded three it was an easy day in office as he went past the wild card entrant Thomas Calvert of Australia in straight games 11-5, 11-6, 11-5.
In the women's event Sachika Ingale had to put up stern fight against Danielle Fourie to win the match 11-7, 12-10, 12-14, 12-10
