Indian players featuring in the University squash events in the US is not rare. Top juniors when ready for tougher assignments for the country would find the sport a good passport for higher studies in some of the esteemed institutions in America.
Generally they keep tuning their squash even as studies demand their attention there. A few who have played this year include Rishi for Colombia, Madhav for Harvard, Ishaaan for F and M, Ness Billimoria for St Lawrence, Abhimanyu for Princeton. In addition this year the few who came for additional notice were Arjun Kocchar of Yale, Saumya Karki for Harvard and Anaka Alankamony for Pennsylvania. The three were in the teams which played in the finals of the national competition. Arjun had guided Yale to title-win over Rochester, something that had come after a gap of 26 years. On the other hand Saumya, who was a captain outdid Anaka, by helping Harvard beat Pennsylvania in the women's final.
Arjun had won all his matches in the 9-player tournament for Yale including the final. Saumya did that for Harvard but Anaka was on the losing side, unable to show her mettle for Pennsylvania.
