It was mixed luck for two Indians, Vikram Malhotra and Ravi Dixit in the Malaysian Tour 2016 Leg one, a PSA world tour event being held in Malaka. While the US based Vikram negotiated his way ahead playing two rounds in one day and then later to reach the final, the Chennai-based Indian Squash Academy trainee Ravi crashed out in the first round.
Ravi was unfortunate to have faced the second seed Muhd Asyraf Azan of Malaysia straightaway and even though put up an initial resistance, faded away in three games. The Malaysian won 13-11, 11-6, 11-5.
However the 125th ranked Vikram, who is seeded five, showed lot more enterprise. He got past Tsz Kwan Lau of Hong Kong in the first round and later in the day upset Ravi's conqueror Asyraf Azan in four games to book a semi-final berth. The 47-minute encounter ended in the Indian's favour at 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8.
Then in the semi-final on Wednesday, the in-form Vikram needed just 28 minutes to down the third seed Ben Grindrod of New Zealand in straight games 11-5, 11-8, 11-3. The Indian now plays the eighth seed Eain Yow Ng of Malaysia in the title-round on Friday.
