Kuala Lumpur: India assured itself of a quarterfinal berth in the World Junior Women's Team squash championship here on Tuesday after it secured wins over Ireland and New Zealand by an identical 3-0 margin in the Group C League.
With a match against Hong Kong remaining the look out now is which team will top the Group. Both have qualified for the next phase.
India's mainstay today was Sanya Vats, the number one player who led the victory march with her inspiring show. Still, Sanya did start on a hesitant note in the opener against Ireland. She dropped a game against Emma McGugan before steadying herself to take the winning path from thereon. Yoshna Singh and Ananya Dabke then completed the job. Against New Zealand again, Sanya set the tone and Ananya and Aishwarya Khubchandani finished off.
India had finished 6th overall in the previous edition in Tauranga, New Zealand in 2017.
The result: India bt Ireland 3-0 (Sanya Vats bt Emma McGugan 8-11, 11-4, 11-2, 11-9; Yoshna Singh bt Emma Lundy 11-7, 12-10, 11-4; Ananya Dabke bt Kelly Byrne 11-6, 11-3, 11-1) ; India bt New Zealand 3-0 (Sanya Vats bt Anika Jackson 11-6, 11-9, 11-4; Ananya Dabke bt Georgia Robcke 11-5, 11-7, 11-6; Aishwarya Khubchandani bt Natalie Sayes 11-4, 11-4, 11-4)
